If you are a Yahoo! junkie that uses the many features that Yahoo! has to offer such as mail, answers, personals, weather, and news, then the Yahoo! Toolbar would be a perfect addition to your browser. The Yahoo! Toolbar is available for download for both Internet Explorer and Firefox. Downloading for either browser is a snap and the Yahoo! Toolbar automatically appears after you restart your browser.
The Yahoo! Toolbar packs in a lot of features including the best of what Yahoo! has to offer in a small, uncluttered toolbar. The Yahoo! search function is at the left, and allows the user to search using Yahoo’s search engine and through Yahoo’s various databases such as news, sports, finance, Yahoo! 360, flickr, and Yahoo! Answers.
Next to the Big Yahoo! Y is the toolbar options dropdown that allows the user to customize buttons, functions, and the toolbars overall appearance.
The Yahoo! Toolbar also features its rather surprisingly intuitive Anti-Spy feature which is known to cut down on the threat of spyware tremendously. Upon first use f Anti-Spy, I had to download the latest version, which can be kind of a pain, especially when the toolbar calls for that right after I downloaded the toolbar itself. One would think that the latest version of the Anti-Spy function would come bundled with the latest toolbar release.
Accessing Yahoo! Mail and MyYahoo! Functions are just a click away signing in and out of those functions if you have multiple Yahoo! usernames is fast and easy. You can also access your Yahoo! address book from the same dropdown menu.
Yahoo! also includes a button for its HotJobs career site in the toolbar, but its function serves as little more than a link to the actual site. If you are not currently in the job market, you can easily remove this and any other button in the preferences dropdown.
Other features include access to games, music, personals, and Yahoo! Answers, a “Web 2.0” program that Yahoo! is really hyping that allows users to ask and answer questions for points. The program has really taken off in the past few months, and the Yahoo! Toolbar allows the user to ask a question or browse for existing questions right from the browser.
Yahoo! users would love the Yahoo! Toolbar for its versatility and access to almost all Yahoo! offerings available. The toolbar is robust without becoming cluttered and is almost completely customizable to suit the preferences of the most finicky of users.
