The Skype toolbar allows Skype users to open their Skype client directly from the toolbar to make calls, add contacts, and edit their preferences. Another cool feature that the toolbar boasts is the ability to recognize phone numbers and Skype names on a webpage, allowing you to make a Skype call with just one click.
Another feature on the Skype toolbar is the button that automatically highlights all Skype numbers and names on a webpage for easy identification and click-calling.
The Skype toolbar has the Skype logo on the left that features a drop down menu that includes the ability to open Skype, edit preferences, and access a help menu. Next to the Skype logo is the button that allows users to set their country code.
The Skype toolbar also features a Google search window and the option to configure search with the Yahoo! search engine, Ebay, Shopping.com, and Ask Jeeves.
An optional bundle feature that comes with the Skype toolbar is the Paypal checkout logo which automatically lets the user know if the merchants listed in their search results accept Paypal. It does this by adding a Paypal shopping cart link directly next to participating merchants. The Skype toolbar does not install any malware, spyware, or adware on the user’s computer, nor does it or the Paypal option monitor users’ shopping habits.
The Skype toolbar is available for both Internet Explorer and Firefox browsers and works with both unobtrusively. Download and installation is easy and fast and the Skype toolbar automatically installs itself directly after browser startup.
For the avid Skype user, the Skype toolbar is nothing short of a necessity for its ease of use and intuitive features. Though the toolbar fails to come bundled with other, more common toolbar features such as a popup blocker and search highlight function, these functions can easily be installed with another browser toolbar, though that would take up more space. One would think that with the added features that the toolbar does employ, such as the Paypal checkout function, that Skype would bundle the more traditional services, but that’s the only real gripe.
