Editorial Review

The SearchBliss toolbar claims to be an all-encompassing Swiss army knife for the savvy webmaster on-the-go, having virtually every tool a keyword-hunting, SEO’ing enterprising entrepreneur could possibly want. As long as that savvy webmaster doesn’t mind using Internet Explorer that is.

Downloading and installing the SearchBliss toolbar was straightforward enough. Simply click the “download the toolbar” link from the SearchBliss Toolbar site, run the .exe, and fire up Internet Explorer. From there, all you do is select “View” and then “toolbars,” and you will see SearchBliss nestled snugly within the rest of your options.

The SearchBliss toolbar seems to run pretty unobtrusively. As a search bar, it can be pretty handy as it allows searches from all the major engines including Google, Yahoo, and MSN as well as notables such as AltaVista, alltheweb, and DMOZ. One aggravation when using the SearchBliss toolbar for searching is that the user has to actually select which engine he wants to use each time from a dropdown box, instead of being able to simply selecting a favorite search engine and keeping the rest in reserve.

As a webmaster tool, at first glance, SearchBliss appears pretty robust, but just like the saying goes, its looks can be deceiving. The webmaster tools dropdown showcases such features as a sparsely-populated webmaster forum, an odd assortment of resources and content, and web tools that will have you on the cutting edge of web design…if only it were 1998. These include button tools such as animated buttons and rollover images, a tables generator, HTML frames, and a pop-up ads generator.

The SearchBliss Toolbar’s SEO dropdown menu is really no better.  It has tools such as a backlink finder, keyword suggestion tool, and an Alexa web rank finder. Just like the webmaster dropdown, it’s sorely outdated. It even includes a “meta tag optimizer.” Let’s just say that there hasn’t been a very dire need for optimizing meta tags in quite some time.

The SearchBliss Toolbar also includes a button that takes you straight to its “Google Dance” page but even if you wanted to use this clumsy tool, you would have to side-scroll in tiny windows to read any data that you’ve collected.

The SearchBliss Toolbar is sorely outdated as both a webmaster tool and an SEO resource. Additionally, there are probably not very many web professionals that typically use Internet Explorer as their primary browser. All of the functions that The SearchBliss toolbar offer are easily found in much more powerful, updated forms as Firefox extensions or other, more versatile available toolbars. If this were the pre-dot-com era, I may give The SearchBliss Toolbar a better recommendation, but since we’ve been in the new millennium for a few years now, this toolbar is really showing its age. Highly NOT recommended.
