Want to know why Google or Yahoo! ranks pages? If so this is the Firefox extension for you. SEO for Firefox pulls in many useful marketing data points to make it easy get a more holistic view of the competitive landscape of a market right from the search results.
Editorial ReviewSEO for Firefox was developed by Aaron Wall, author of the acclaimed SEO Book and a host of other helpful tools geared toward search engine optimization. SEO for Firefox is designed to allow the user to see Yahoo and Google ranking criteria about websites in their search implemented right into the search results page. The information that is displayed can quite valuable to a webmaster looking to enter a target market or increase his search engine rank in a market he’s already in – all at a glance. SEO for Firefox displays right into the Google or Yahoo search engine results:
SEO for Firefox also comes with a nifty tool that highlights all ‘nofollow’ links. While this is a neat function, like SEO for Firefox it’s best to not leave this on too much. And I’ve found that once this function is on it doesn’t always want to shut off immediately – or at all – which is terribly annoying. SEO for Firefox runs unobtrusively in the Firefox browser and shows only a small button on the bottom right corner of the browser window. This button also serves as an “on/off” button and let’s the user know at a glance if SEO for Firefox is running or not. The options for SEO for Firefox are as straight-forward as they can get. It’s located under Firefox’s Tools menu and features a Lookup Tool as well as an options menu. The lookup tool allows the user to run a quick query on a particular site by typing in the URL. The options menu lists all of the site criteria that SEO for Firefox displays and gives the option for “Mode” and “Delay.” The Mode can be set to automatic, on-demand, or hidden. The “Automatic” mode means that the data will automatically be queried any time a Google or Yahoo search is performed. The “On-demand” mode will only que the data only if the link for that particular query is clicked. The “Hidden” mode will simply make criteria the user doesn’t want to see disappear. The delay can be set anywhere from 0 to 5 seconds, though Andrew warns that any criteria set to “Auto” should have a delay of at least 1 second and that any 0 second settings could possibly end up in being temporarily banned by a search engine for appearing to scrape data. Any web professional that uses Firefox (don’t we all?) will appreciate the simplicity and functionality of SEO for Firefox. It’s ease of use, relative lack of bugs, and the sheer value of the information that it produces at-a-glance makes this webmaster toolbar a “no-brainer.” Download
